Oregon REALTORS® Rally Public Support for Legislation Lowering Barriers to Condominium Construction

On the heels of significant legislative advances for housing in recent sessions, Oregon REALTORS® kept up the momentum by backing a law that would bring the state statute of limitations on construction defect liability closer in-line with that of its western peers. Their latest legislative success will reduce barriers to building affordable condominiums and expand access to homeownership to more Oregon residents. Their effort got a big boost from the REALTOR® Party’s Advocacy Everywhere program.

In rural Oregon, Klamath County Association of REALTORS® Conducts Wildfire Mitigation Symposium

With help from NAR’s Rural Outreach Grant program, the Klamath County Association brought in experts in fire-fighting, insurance issues, and policy to educate members, locals, and elected officials on key matters relating to the risk of wildfires. It was such a success that neighboring associations have been inspired to do the same.

Oregon REALTORS® Conduct ‘People for an Affordable Oregon’ Campaign in Support of Key Housing Legislation

With insights gained from REALTOR® Party polling, Oregon REALTORS® launched an Issues Mobilization campaign to persuade legislators to approve critical legislation addressing the state’s ongoing housing and homelessness crises. The resulting passage of SB 1537 brings important land use and permitting reforms to the housing production process.

Building on the success of its first Fair Housing Summit, which featured Richard Rothstein’s groundbreaking book, The Color of Law, Oregon REALTORS®’ second annual summit provided a deep dive into the history of fair housing and housing access in Oregon, how fair housing impacts business, and supporting fair housing in the community. The keynote address was again by Richard Rothstein, this time joined by his daughter, Leah Rothstein, in discussing their new book, Just Action: How to Challenge Segregation Enacted Under the Color of Law.

Associations Around the Country Tap into Training that Helps Members Recognize and Correct a Significant Obstacle to Fair Housing: Implicit Bias

Kansas City Regional Association of REALTORS® took advantage of a compelling exhibition at the local history museum to educate members about their city’s role in the practice of redlining, and the negative impacts still felt nationwide because of historic housing discrimination. At a private reception, REALTORS® toured the galleries, spoke with the curator, faced some hard truths, and resolved to learn more.

Delayed by Natural Disaster, Rogue Valley Association of REALTORS® Launches Wildfire Safety Campaign with Emphasis on Prevention

In a maddening twist of fate, when the pandemic forced the Rogue Valley Association of REALTORS® to postpone a wildfire safety campaign, a wildfire tore through its operating region in southwest Oregon, destroying 2,500 residential structures. Not only did the campaign get off the ground the following year, it was able to stop proposed wildfire mitigation regulation at point of sale.

With Call for Action and Housing Opportunity Grant, REALTORS® of Central Oregon Keep Housing Issues Front-and-Center

When the initially reluctant City Council of Bend, Oregon finally agreed to set the ball rolling to increase its Urban Growth Boundary, the local REALTOR® association provided positive reinforcement with a supportive Call For Action. Building rapport and relationships, says the Government Affairs Director, is always a good strategy – that extends to leadership within a regional housing coalition that is raising public awareness of a growing housing crisis.

Central Oregon REALTORS® Support Mixed Use Development and Affordable Housing
